According to Massachusetts State Police and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, the crash happened shortly after 11 p.m. when a recreational boat carrying four individuals slammed into a pier near Logan Airport. Officials confirmed that one man and three women were aboard the vessel at the time of the crash.
Elizabeth “Lizzie” Dankert was transported along with the other victims to Massachusetts General Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. In a statement released following the incident, Freedom Boat Club said the vessel involved had been taken without authorization and was operated after business hours without the club’s knowledge or permission.
“The vessel involved was taken without authorization and operated outside the knowledge and control of the Club, well after the Club had closed for the day,” the organization stated. “We are cooperating fully with all relevant authorities.”
The crash prompted an urgent overnight emergency response involving Boston EMS, Massport Fire, Massachusetts State Police, and Environmental Police. Responders faced extremely difficult conditions while reaching the victims along the rocky shoreline in darkness.
“Multiple units from Boston EMS responded overnight to a challenging boat incident,” Boston EMS shared in a public statement. “In difficult conditions, including darkness and slippery shoreline rocks, EMTs George May and Andrea Albano located the scene and began patient care. Working in close coordination with Massport Fire, crews carefully extricated four patients from the rocks.”
